Unofficial Abbott's Ads

This is a series of unofficial advertisements for Abbott's Frozen Custard, a family-owned ice cream chain local to Rochester, NY. Two different ads are seen here in poster format, backlit sign format, and Instagram post format.

Process

To the right is my brand analysis document, which was the first step in this project. Researching and creating a brand analysis of Abbott's helped me to understand them better: their origins, their identity, slogans, and colors. This heavily influenced the concepts and messages behind the ads I ended up designing.

I needed to also come up with taglines I could use in these ads, I came up with ten different taglines based on my research. The ones I chose for the final designs were "A Century of Smiles" and "Your Happiness is Our Legacy." The other taglines can be seen to the image on the right, with explanations for each of them.

To the left are some in-progress variants of both ads in both formats. I felt that the space was not effectively being used, particularly in the poster with the white borders. The type also did not feel as interesting as I wanted the posters to be. I did change these in the final versions, but if I were to improve the finals further I would likely improve the quality of the photography.
